  • Oldtime Japanese Rug Cleaning Trick

My friend Annie is the neatest friend. It is not a visit to Kona unless I swing by and visit with her. There are so many things I like about her, I just cannot count them.. Steve says we are birds of the feather~
    This is Annie..

I love going over for a visit.. She is a most interesting person and ready to laugh in a second. She has had a lifetime to collect many ‘goodies’ as we call our collectables. Steve and her son Jan are more apt to say packed! … but her home is clean and orderly. When she is reminded of something she has, she knows exactly where it is and can retrieve it in a minute.
I love the smell of her house.. always something good cooking and the fragrance of layers of clean sweet smelling carpets, not to mention I’m minutes away from a root beer float..

It is pure luxury to walk on the layers of rugs..

Too many times rugs that do not fit into our washers go too long between cleanings.. Not Annie! On a regular basis, she’ll grab those carpets and toss them down onto the driveway, vacuum them and then hose them down. Then comes the buckets of soapy water… the broom and the stomp.  ‘Stomp’ pushes the soapy water thru every strand of wool/ ?? thread fiber.. followed by a good hosing off to rinse it clean. Then comes the water softener stomp…followed again with another thourough hosing and then the hanging it across the picnic table to drain and dry.

People in Hawaii mostly go barefoot.. so, a neighbor or friend jumping into the stomp is easy and welcome, LOLOL

This is Steve and I doing our version of the stomp.. I can hardly wait ’till it is dry and set back down….
